Prof. Meyers was born in April 1947. He studied political
science, history, philosophy, and English language and literature at
the universities of Bonn and Reading. He took his MA in political
science in 1970, M.Phil. in contemporary European studies in 1973 and
Dr.phil. summa cum laude in 1974. He was an assistant lecturer and
lecturer at the Department of Politics, University of Bonn from 1972
till 1984, had visiting professorships at the universities of Bochum
and Marburg in 1985 and 1986. His habilitation was in political science
in 1986 and he became a professor of international politics at the
University of Münster in 1987. He was elected vice dean of the Faculty
of Social Sciences in 1990 and dean in 1991. He served alternatively as
dean and vice dean from 1990 till 1999. He was in charge of various
activities and projects in the Department of Politics, University of
Münster: Tempus Program since 1995 and double diploma courses with
Babeş-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, IEP Lille and University of
Twente since 1999. He has served as director of International Studies
since 2000. He has been a deputy chairman of the Department since 2001
and visiting professor at the Faculty of European Studies, Babeş-Bolyai
University since 1995. He holds an honorary doctorate of the
Babeş-Bolyai University.

His main fields of interest in research and
teaching have been: theory, methodology, and history of international
relations, peace and conflict research, development studies and
European studies. He is the author of numerous books and contributions
to learned journals and works of reference. |
