VOJVODINA: PAST – PRESENT – FUTURE

2. Aims of the Course:
Students who take this course will:
:: Learn about history, genesis and present significance of this very specific European region.
:: Be able to understand the concept of Vojvodina – as idea of multiethnic and multicultural region.
:: Be able to understand and explain the main political, demographic, cultural and economic characteristics of Vojvodina.
Course Delivery3. Contents:
The most important facts about geography, about ancient, medieval and modern history of this region. Demographic data, facts related to changes of Avar, Hungarian, Turkish, Habsburg, Serbian and Yugoslav rule. Module would have explained the causes of several massive waves of emigrations from - and immigrations to this region. Facts about significance of this region as military border of Hungary and later Habsburg Monarchy. Events during revolution 1848/49; the Serb national movement 1848-1849 and the rise of Vojvodina. The idea of Vojvodina between the First and the Second World War and in socialist period. Vojvodina today and its perspectives.

Course Assessment6. Course Learning Outcomes:
After taking this course, students will be able to:
:: Describe and explain the most important historical processes and events related to Vojvodina region.
:: Relate the historical events and processes of the Vojvodina region to the political, social and economic processes in Habsburg monarchy and Ottoman Empire, as well as to the wider historical events and processes in Europe.
:: Be aware of unique historical position of Vojvodina

7. Assessment Methods:
Assessment is by oral course work (short individual contributions based on recommended reading) and a written exam paper (duration: three hours) set at the end of the course
