In
order to enable students to carry out independent scientific work, the
basic methods for data collecting and analysis will be presented. On
the basis of that knowledge, students will qualify for the
investigation and analysis of different social phenomena and for the
formulation of scientific attitudes to them. |

Module Delivery | 3. Contents:

During
the course, the folowing topics will be discussed: basic philosophical
aspects of scientific investigation, ethical issues, research design,
sampling (nonprobability sampling, probability sampling), methods for
the data collecting and analysis (observation, mail questionnaire,
telephone survey, the schedule-structured interview, focused interview,
the nondirective interview, biographical method, experiment, content
analysis, demographic approach). Also, practical advice about
scientific writing will be given (for example, how to write an essay,
an article, master's thesis etc.).

Teachers'
lectures will be supported by different technical appliances, depending
on the lecture topic. The aims of the lectures are: a) to present new
content to the students and b) to motivate them to take an active role
in the lecture organization. During the classes, bilateral
communication and group work will be encouraged. |
